Hi Friends!
Hope you are all gearing up for a fun St. Patty’s day. I have a bunch of projects in the beginning stages that I’m excited to share but for today I’m going back a bit to share something that has been a big hit with my daughter Devon and was super easy. And most importantly, super cheap!
One of Devon’s favorite thing to do play is play school and office. We had a huge desk plunked behind our bar-turned crafting area and it took up way too much space.
So when we redid the floor and I painted the cabinets downstairs I could not being myself to lug that monstrosity back inside.
Devon only needed something small, so I thought to make her a desk from a cheap white shelf and some brackets.

One shelf and three brackets later I was ready to go.
These ready-made shelves can be cut to size but I didn’t even have to make a cut to make it fit this well!

I just screwed the three bracket into the wall (with anchors) at the correct height for her chair and rested the shelf on top.
You could add screws to the shelf part but I didn’t want to make holes so I had the option to flip it over if it gets stained or scratched. It hasn’t presented a problem yet…

The best part is that it doubles as my sewing desk when I need to do whip out the old sewing machine.

Now that the desk is sort of an extension of the counter space it creates much more room in that area and also can serve as extra serving space for entertaining.

It is easily Devon’s most used “toy” and she likes that it was made just for her.

Here are a few more shots. You can see how unobtrusive it is in the space as compared to a large desk.
Don’t mind the fingerprints on the mirror and clutter on the counter tops, it’s Saturday morning!
